The art exhibit showcases the incredible talents of cancer survivors who have transformed their journeys into powerful expressions of hope and strength. Each piece reflects personal stories of struggle and triumph, with vibrant colors and intricate designs symbolizing the fight against cancer. The exhibit, held at the Gateway Arts Council Gallery as part of Relay for Life, invites visitors to explore the enduring spirit of survival. This heartfelt collaboration not only raises awareness but also fosters a deep sense of unity among survivors, their families, and supporters.

Erin Gemmer is an Ohio artist with a lifelong passion for creation. She graduated from Wright State University with a degree in Fine Arts and a minor in Art History in 2022. Since then, Gemmer has been experimenting with incorporating art history, a sense of nostalgia, and cultural heritage into her work. Primarily working in oil or graphite in a realistic style, Gemmer’s pieces push the boundary between history and contemporary, reality and fantasy.

Michelle Walker

Michelle Walker earned a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking from 2012 to 2014 from the University of Cincinnati,. She served as an Instructor of Record for Non-DAAP Drawing and a Teacher’s Assistant for Drawing Foundations, receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award for UC Graduate Assistants. As a Wolfstein Travel Grant recipient, Michelle traveled to Japan for her thesis research and exhibited work at the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati. Her thesis, titled “Memory Trace(d),” explored the influence of memory on their artistic practice through narrative writing and self-reflection. Previously, Michelle completed a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Interior Design at Purdue University.

In Shelby County, a fictional crime has taken place, and the entire community is coming together to solve this absurd mystery! Community members are asked to cast their votes for one of the 24 hilariously eccentric volunteer “detectives,” each presenting their wildly imaginative sketches of the crime scene. The twist? The sketch that receives the most votes not only earns its creator some well-deserved bragging rights but also reveals the actual location of the imaginary crime.

My paintings are of bird eggs and woodlands 

Nature is in perpetual change – and with spring comes renewal. The earth washes away the drab vestiges of the black end white winter world and is reborn in vivid spring colors. The birds weave their nests with great artistry, and fill them with their beautiful eggs…giving us a season of rebirth. The egg is such a contrast, delicate yet so strong. For millennia bird eggs are symbols of creation. In some cultures they represent luck, wealth and health. In Jewish tradition it symbolizes promise. In Christian, especially at Easter, it’s traditionally a metaphor for resurrection, We all undergo our individual transformations, and I see the egg as a symbol of hope, growth and…

Michelle Geissbuhler began studying painting seriously about fifteen years ago. She works primarily in oils, with subject matter and style ranging from more realistic to more abstract. She explores other media as well, including ceramics, papermaking, printing, and mixed media. The title of this show reflects the continuing evolution of her artistic expression (“Now and Then”) and the variety of materials used (“Here and There”).
